Essential preparation for a worry-free trip with children and teenagers

When it comes to traveling with children and teenagers, preparation is key to ensuring a smooth experience. It is important to check in advance the necessary documents and specific rules for domestic and international flights to avoid setbacks and make the trip more enjoyable for everyone. In this regard, some tips can be useful to help make the trip smoother and safer.

Domestic Flights

With the amendments to the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA) - Law No. 13,812, of March 18, 2019 - it has become mandatory that children or adolescents under 16 years old cannot travel alone on domestic flights without the proper authorization from parents or guardians. In these cases, specific documentation is required, which varies according to the situation.

In the company of a relative up to the 3rd degree (father, mother, siblings over 18 years old, uncles, grandparents, and great-grandparents):

- Document proving the relationship or bond between them;

- Child's document: birth certificate, original or certified copy; those over 12 years old must present an identification document with a photo, such as an ID card or passport.

·In the company of an adult without kinship:

- Judicial or extrajudicial Travel Authorization. In the case of extrajudicial, the document must be handwritten by the parent or guardian, with a notarized signature. The authorization can also be generated online through the e-Notariado platform, in the "EAV - Electronic Travel Authorization" section;

- Child's document: birth certificate, original or certified copy; those over 12 years old must present an identification document with a photo, such as an ID card or passport.

Voos Internacionais

For international travel of children and adolescents from 0 to 17 years old, there are additional requirements beyond the necessary documents for domestic flights.

· Accompanied by parents or guardians (tutor, custodian):

- Valid Brazilian passport;

Accompanied by only one parent:

- Valid Brazilian passport and express authorization from the other parent through a notarized document.

- Please note: Travel authorization will be waived when the minor presents a valid passport with express authorization to travel unaccompanied abroad.

Unaccompanied or accompanied by a person over 18 years authorized by the parents or guardians:

- Valid Brazilian passport and express authorization from both parents or guardians through a notarized document. Travel authorization will be waived when the minor presents a valid passport with express authorization to travel unaccompanied abroad.

Attention: For trips to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela, instead of the passport, the Civil Identity Card (RG) issued by the Public Security Secretariats of the States or the Federal District is also accepted.
